In 1988 he furthered his career by transferring to the Air Force Reserves, 4th Air Force
Headquarters at McClellan AFB CA. He was a member of the 4th Air Force Staff Assistance &
Readiness Visit Team that inspected the numerous Reserve units throughout the United States.
He was also selected six times to be a C-130 Maintenance Umpire inspector at the annual Air
Force Airlift Rodeo competition. In 1991 he answered the call by participating in Desert
Storm/Desert Shield. In 1993, he once again came home to the Guard at the 129th ARRG at
Moffett NAS CA, as Chief of Quality Assurance. In 1994 he went to Saudi Arabia on Operation
Southern Watch as the Maintenance Superintendent at the 4411 Provisional Squadron. After his
return from Saudi Arabia, he was instrumental in preparing the 129th for the upcoming ORI by
using his many years of maintenance knowledge and 4th AF Inspection Team skills to enhance
the Maintenance Squadrons level of readiness.
SMSgt Rengstorf’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force
Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal,
Distinguished - Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, Coast

Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia

Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Small Arms Expert
Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of

retired from the California Air National Guard in Dec 1996 with 39+ years.
