Harrier Head On
Harrier 158959 was delivered to the USMC on July 5, 1973 and
assigned to VMA-542 the "Tigers". American policy was to develop an
indigenous ejection seat and the Harrier was the selected vehicle. The
Stencel SIIIS-3 seat has faster parachute deployment, high and low
speed operating modes, as well as a relative-wind-seeking extraction
rocket for the parachute and a ballistic spreader.
