Art Cader - B-24 Liberators at Guadalcanal
On Wednesday evening, March 17, 2010, Mr. Art Cader, Pacific Coast Air Museum member and life time resident of Petaluma will be our guest speaker to share his WWII experiences in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Art piloted B-24 Liberators in the Pacific while assigned to the 5th Bombardment Group. He flew 46 combat missions including Guadalcanal. His longest bombing mission was 15+ hours on which he and his crew provided cover air cover for the lead bomber after it was shot down. For that mission, Art was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross at a ceremony at Travis Air Force Base about two years ago.

During the Vietnam war,
Intruder 155595 flew interdiction and strike missions in Laos,
Cambodia, and Vietnam attacking the Ho Chi Minh Trail on
pre-planned strikes and "Road Cuts" missions.
Protective Reaction Strikes were flown against North Vietnam
usually attacking SAM and AAA sites, as well as MIG bases.
During one of these missions after Christmas 1971 VA-165 LCDR
Fred Holmes was lost to a SAM while attacking the air base at
Vinh. While attacking the Haiphong port area on May 10, 1972
fellow shipmates Lt. Randy "Duke" Cunningham and
Willie Driscoll flew their famous mission becoming MIG aces
while protecting the attacking alpha strike package in their F-4
